>I would like to interest members of this list in a rather unique short
>course that I have been running for over 10 years now. It is a 20 week
>online course, which involves up to 300 professionals from all levels of
>education, from any subject field, and from many different
>countries. While it was initially intended as a professional development
>Certificate in online teaching for post-graduate experienced people, it
>has turned into a rich discussion forum among a vast community of peers
>across the world.

The way that education, especially higher and further, has become
borderless nowadays means that we mingle people not only from public and
private institutions, but across disciplines. For instance technical
people and librarians are becoming educators, rightly so; but they need to
acquire some knowledge of the field of teaching and learning. By the same
token, educators need to learn more about the fields they only peripherally
understand, like librarianship and technological processes.

The other way that this course is unique is by working in many
languages. We have set up regional groups in numerous countries, where,
for half of the course [ie 10 weeks] the groups link the work of the course
to locally relevant issues in their mother tongues with a regional
facilitator. During the other half they work in mixed groups in
English. Of course, even in the mother tongue, people are following the
University of London syllabus and materials.

A third way our course is unique is in the mixture of materials that it
exposes the participants to: a variety of uses of video, audio, and
different text modes [e.g. text lectures, online discussions of different
kinds], and a variety of platforms.

I would welcome participants this group, either as students to obtain the
London University award of the Certificate, or possibly as facilitators of
a new regional group.

I would also be interested in hearing from anyone who is doing something
similar, with a view to applying jointly for research or development funding.

Kindly take a look at the web site and/or ask me for more details.
