"In other words, quality information needs to be matched to a learning
process that incorporates the specific needs of the learners." - Steve
Mahaley
I like that statement Steve.
Here are some of my workplaces guidelines for quality information:
* Make content as interactive as timelines and budget allow
* Ensure a clear and clean interface
* Provide students with clear directions
* Pay attention to educational issues like cognitive loading,
sequencing, student feedback etc.
* Make sure content is current and accurate
* Pay attention to technical details including accessibility for
people with disabilities
* Foster student versus system control wherever possible
My other point about instructional design might be better expressed by
saying "learning activities need to match expected outcomes". If an engineer
needs to write technical reports, you focus on the skills required in
technical report writing and use examples from the field; you don't teach a
class on grammar and use examples from fictional writing (even if you
believe engineers need more appreciation of literature. Smile!)
