Hello
I am currently working on my dissertation topic in the area of
distance education using Moore's ransactional Distance Theory.
This is a my interested topic. I really need your help in terms of
the purpose of study, research questions, statement of the problem,
etc. Would you pease sugges me some opinions, other thought and
sources that would be appropriate for this topic. I will be
appreciate.
Topic:
An Investigation of the Student-Teacher Relationship in Web-based
Distance-learning with an Online Courses Using the Transactional
Distance Educational Theory
Purpose of the Study
The study will investigate the student-teacher relationship in Web-based
online courses. Upon completion, this study will make recommendations to
teachers and students regarding how to optimally use the Web for
instructional purposes.
The study will use Michael G. Moore’s concept of transactional distance
education as its theoretical basis. Its goal is to provide a guide to help
distance educators and practitioners better understand Web-based distance
education in this new era.
Research Question
This study will examine several online courses programs. The research
questions of this study are related to Moore’s three variables of structure,
dialogue and learner autonomy.
Questions related to structure:
1. How are the courses structured? (i.e. syllabus, course schedule,
course assignments, etc.)
2. What are the contents of the different online courses covered in this
study?
3. What medium (video conferencing, text, video, audio, multimedia,
etc.) is used for the delivery of program content?
4. How is evaluation and assessment of student learning/performance
administered?
Questions related to dialogue:
5. What types of dialogue take place between the teacher and the
students in these Web-based online courses?
6. What type of medium is used in this dialogue? (i.e., e-mail, text
files, InternetRelay Chat (or IRC), satellites, video/audio
broadcasts or tapes, multimedia,etc.)
7. What methods do instructors use to motivate students to make them
engage in a constructive dialogue in order to achieve a higher
learning level?
8. Does distance education differ from traditional education in terms of
the overall student-teacher relationship that exists in the classroom
(online or traditional)?
Question related to learner autonomy:
9. To what extent does distance learning promote learning autonomy?
10. What are the dynamics of the teaching/learning relationship that
affect learner autonomy in a Web-based program?
11. Does learner autonomy promote self-directed learning in Web-based
online courses?
Thank you,
