Hi Maggie,

I have read your web site with great interest and fascination.

I love your model of the four learning orientations.

Not surprisingly, my greatest challenge is making a constructive
connection with the Resistant Learner. If I have a nemesis, this
would be it.

I noticed that, while you give suggestions for learning environments
attuned to the other three learning orientations -- the Transforming
Learner, the Performing Learner, and the Conforming Learner -- you
omit any guidance for how to treat the Resistant Learner.

Filling in the blanks, it occurs to me that the Resistant Learner
may be responsive to learning by direct experience, watching TV
and movies, engaging in drama (perhaps even psychodrama), and other
unsupervised learning and outlandish forms of creative play.

It also occurs to me that the Resistant Learner who is pathologically
attention-seeking may also respond to suitable cognitive therapy, but
that such treatment would be way beyond anything that one could expect
a traditional educational institution to provide.

Am I anywhere close to your own thinking here?

Thanks for your further insights, Maggie.

Barry Kort
