Apolgies John Laurie, this has indeed been a fascinating and useful
discussion which I have shared with my colleagues. It feeds into issues
we are grappling with which have to do with how on erth to measure what
has been called "non linear learning" , and yes as someone said it does
seem to be part of the constructivist/ instructivist debate. We have
recently found a very useful source of studies which confront directly
how to develop good designs for measuring the effct of technological
interventions on learning. Others might also find it valuable- it is at
http://www.sri.com/policy/designkt/found.html
Thanks for a great list
