Vera,

You have raised a great issue. Virtual environment has become so overused
that its meaning has become nebulous. This is problematic when you or I
are trying to define to others exactly what it means and to pinpoint
examples. We recently provided a training for 20 teachers to use Virtual
Reality Modeling Language (VRML) to develop highly interactive learning
environments for their classrooms. Our working definition of virtual
environment has been been that of an immserive environment where the
teaching and learning is taking place primarily within (or as a result
of) technology.

Please see the following:
http://teach.valdosta.edu/teachingtechnology/vrml

There you will find an outline of our training...how we taught the
teachers about "virtual environments" and a pedagogical model we use to
guide the teachers' development of learning units using the VRML
technology.

Links to many other resources are available at:
http://teach.valdosta.edu/teachingtechnology/learner_interface/resources.htm

Then again, virtual environment is used synonymously with "online
learning". In that case I would have been of no help to you at all :-}
