I cannot agree more. One of the motivation to find new ways of using ICT in
teaching, learning and/or training is to enable students, learners or
trainees to acquire skill. For training, it may afford to be a little more
short-sighted as implied by terms such as "just-in-time". I passionately
believe that there is still grounds for "just-in-case" education which build
lifelong skills. The problem is that we don't know what will be required.
The best guess we can make is based on today's value system - such as
learning skills, independent thinking skills, communication skill, the
ability to work in a team, .....

Most of these of "soft skills" and best learnt via experience, reflection
and appropriate guidance and stimulation. So I believe role play simulation
has a role to play in this environment.
