Subject: [IFETS-DISCUSSION:1271] Role-play by Albert Ip

Hi,
The discussion I am responding to is the one dated 2/23/01.
Role-playing, used with a "Real World" environment, is the beginning of
teachers becoming facilators. These applications can begin with one
on-line idea, from one student, and grow into a collabration of as many
students that have access to the e-mail.
This is very important for the future students of the twenty first
century. They will need to be educated as learners, not as clones that
rote rehearse and spew back what the THEACHER has learned. The dynamic
tomarrow asks that students be independent thinkers, as employee. That
they be capable of taking information and creating projects that enhance
the markability of a company. Unless the student becomes learners, this
will not happen. The only time an instructor should have to interviene
(after programming the course) is when the student, or group of students
is stuck, or diverted in the wrong direction.
Technology and Multi/Hyper/media is upon us, there is nothing anyone can
do about this fact. Students of all ages will become independent
thinkers whether the faculty like it or not. So go ahead Albert Ip. You
sound good at what you do. Please be encouraged. There's nothing to
defend.
Sincerely,
TP.Alfonso
