Marshall McClune was not correct when he said, "the media is the message"?
Maybe Marshall was a self-realized prophet. The media has become the
message. However, it is not the only message. Unfortunately, the media is
often the most attractive and demanding part of the message. What gets lost
is the reason for the message, the substance of the message, the reaction to
the message, and the understanding of the message. Often the media inhibits
these additional message values.

Technology can enable us to do a poor job even faster. Understanding the
message and being able to diagnose someone else's understanding of the
message can tell us whether the communication was useful or useless.
Whether the message is acted on cognitively by behavioralists or
collaboratively by constructivists, unless the message produces the desired
results, all we see and hear are the flashing buttons, the animation, the
storyline, the graphics, and the thunder.

The world does not appear to care that the message is getting lost. The
current thinking seems to be, "Fire at will and something is bound to get
through." Speed kills and it can kill effective communication and effective
learning. A biblical phrase that seems to fit this phenomonon is "a
sounding gong and clashing cymbals". Maybe this is the clue we are missing.
Too many messages are sent without love for the receiver. Just some food
for thought.
